{"id":40,"date":"2025-12-19T10:40:27","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T10:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swooldesigns.com\/?p=40"},"modified":"2025-12-26T18:05:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T18:05:52","slug":"the-sedge-stitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swooldesigns.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/19\/the-sedge-stitch\/","title":{"rendered":"Textured crochet stitches: The Sedge Stitch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sedge is one of the loveliest textured stitches in crochet in my opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, it is really difficult to find good charts - especially for increases and decreases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a beginner, you will be able to make this by using some basic stitches: chains (CH), single crochet (SC), half double crochet (HDC) and double crochet (DC). I'm using the American terms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A cluster is a SC, HDC and DC placed into a single stitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><img alt=\"\"><br><strong>Foundation chain<\/strong><br>The foundation chain for a Sedge Stitch is a multiple of 3 plus 2 chains (this is a repeat pattern of 3, you need 1 extra for a final stitch after the repeat - and another chain for the turn).<br><strong>Row 1<\/strong><br>In 2nd chain from hook, place a single crochet(sc), a half double crochet (HDC) and a double crochet (DC) into the same stitch. Skip 2 chains.<br>Continue to repeat this pattern ((SC, HDC, DC), skip 2) until you reach the last chain where you will place just a single crochet (SC).<br><strong>Row 2<\/strong><br>Chain 1 (CH 1) and turn your work.<br>In the final CS of the last row (1st stitch), place (SC, HDC, DC).
